Three Women Soccer Stars

Birgit Prinz was elected FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Birgit Prinz is regarded as one of the most important women in all-times soccer. She received an offer from Luciano Gaucci, the president of AC Perugia to sign for her squad and to become the first woman to play in a professional men’s league (and not just any league, but Series A!). However, she declined the offer.

Another women’s soccer legend is Mia Hamm. She is one of the most productive strikers in the history of the American women’s soccer team. She received 2 FIFA World Player of the Year awards (in 2001 and 2002). Mia Hamm is the female player to have scored the most international goals during her career. Now retired, Mia Hamm has become a spokesperson and representative for women’s sports all over the World.

Marta Vieira da Silva took up soccer at an early age and was quickly spotted as a great talent in her home country of Brazil. She currently plays for Umea IK in Sweden and has several achievements with both the club and the National Brazilian Women’s team. Being in her early twenties and already having so many achievements, Marta is regarded as a potential history-maker in women’s soccer.

Mia Hamm is just fantastic! I sure wish she was still playing. But it is good she is writing and speaking now.
